Specimen Required

All locations: Gynecological sample (VCE) submitted in a Thin-Prep PAP Kit vial. Smear should be taken before the manual examination. Patient should not douche or use any type of lubricant. Patient should refrain from intercourse 24 hours before sample collection.

Client Special Instructions

Requisition must include age/date of birth and LMP, pertinent clinical history including an indication if patient is at high risk for cervical cancer, exogenous hormone use, history of carcinoma, radiation or chemotherapy or previous abnormal pap smear.

Reference Values

Negative: The pap smear is a screening test designed to aid in the detection of premalignant and malignant conditions of the uterine cervix. It is not a diagnostic procedure and should not be used as the sole means of detecting cervical cancer.
