2 Lavender Top Tubes (EDTA) and Gold Top Tube (SST)

Specimen Required

NorthShore Lab Services: draw 2.5 mL blood (1.3 min) in Gold Top Tube and submit 1.0 mL (0.5 min) refrigerated serum. Also submit 2 full Lavender Top Tubes.

Hospital setting: Submit 2.5mL blood (1.3 min) in Gold Top Tube with and 2 full Lavender Top Tubes.

Client Special Instructions

Lavender Top Tube (EDTA) for ABO, Rh Tube must be labeled with correct spelling of full patient name, date of birth OR social security number, date of specimen collection and the initials of the person who obtained the specimen.

Orders for pre-surgical or pre-transfusion testing require the patient be registered through hospital Central Registration (see Blood Bank Requisition).

Please note a REACTIVE RPR result will reflex a Syphilis Ab, IgG total.

Antibody Screen Negative.

Rh-negative pregnant women who have not previously made anti-Rh (“anti-D”) require antenatal adminstration of Rh Immune Globulin to prevent Rh hemolytic disease of the newborn (rh-HDN). The antibody screen detects a risk of HDN due to unexpected antibodies.
